I want you to feel that calm sense of satisfaction I feel every time I walk by, and look at this simple display in my entry hall. It is so simple, but I like it! The metal pumpkin is 3-dimensional, made of interesting strips of metal shaped into a pumpkin, by The Round Top Collection, and that amazing green stem and leaves give it so much personality! I set it in a tray that I had, and scattered a few of our green Granny Smith apples around it (they easily roll all around in the tray)
That's it! I think the apples and the tray ground the pumpkin and give it a reason to be right where it is. And, the interesting thing is, I previously had 3 battery powered pillar candles on the tray with the apples, and I loved them, especially with the candles turned on. But, I gave the candles to my daughter for her new house, and plopped the pumpkin in the center - and now love it just as well.
...that was put in our mailbox by mistake. I know, that happens all the time, but I had torn the protective cover off before I realized it was not addressed to me, but to my neighbor! Yikes! I had to go confess that I had opened it by mistake! So, I walked to her house to deliver the Good Housekeeping that wasn't mine. She greeted me warmly and invited me in. I am the one who has lived in this neighborhood for 6 years and felt like all I did was drive in and out of my garage - and had no time to pause and visit anyone I saw outside.
But, that wayward magazine helped me get to know one of my neighbors! We had a very nice, almost old-fashioned, visit in her lovely home. That weekend was also our neighborhood's semi-annual garage sale weekend, and I had reluctantly committed to participating. We were each up early, calling to the others across the street, with little visits grabbed throughout the day, when the crowds were thinner. The first day, my neighbor across the street bought Starbucks coffee and donuts for all...and that got me in the spirit so I bought us all Pink Ribbon Bagels from Panera the next morning.
Now is the right time to Think Pink! When we Think Pink, we think of our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends, and remind ourselves to help them to be more aware of Breast Cancer. We also want to Think Pink to support them should they have to face cancer. We are all in this together, and my heart goes out to all the women and their families who are affected by Breast Cancer. I love our local Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks - they are diligent to help all those affected by Breast Cancer - in any way possible. Way to Go, BCFO!
